Italian director Francesco Calabrese, known for creating atmospheric short films and ads for the likes of Vogue, Fiat and Yamaha, released his latest short film, Spin Dreams filmed in Milan.
The film is about Anna-Maija Nyman’s daily workout routine and highlights the sacrifices, commitment, and determination required to become a top-ranked competitive pole dancer.
Francesco Calabrese commented on his film by saying:
“Pole Dancing has evolved from its humble roots to become a popular workout and an organized competitive sport. Now, there are even discussions of it becoming an Olympic discipline. However, images in popular culture still relegate Pole Dancing to the status of provocative ornament. While I didn’t intend to shame its sexualized form, I wanted to show that this is only one side of the story”.
